High school robotics building 120lb competitive robots from scratch.
Minot, North Dakota
FRC is the big leagues of high school robotics. You get 6-7 weeks to design, prototype, and build a 120-pound robot that can compete in a complex game. It is fast-paced, challenging, and incredibly rewarding.
Teams are bigger, the robots are heavier, and the competition is fierce. You will learn machining, CAD design, electrical systems, programming in Python, and how to work under pressure. Plus, you get to drive a robot that weighs more than you do.
Within FRC, students specialize in different technical areas. Each sub-team contributes to the robot and the overall success of the season.
Fabrication, assembly, drivetrains, and mechanisms. Learn mills, lathes, and CNC equipment.
Wiring, control systems, pneumatics, and power distribution. PCB design and soldering.
Autonomous routines, teleop controls, vision processing, and robot simulation.
Game analysis, scouting opponents, match strategy, and alliance selection.
Team documentation, photography, video production, and community engagement.
Fundraising, sponsorships, awards submissions, and team logistics management.
Any student in grades 9–12 from any school may join. No prior experience required.
